KEY CHANGES FEDAS PCK VERSION 2.0

 
1. Introduction
   
 

To safeguard the further success of the implementation of the FEDAS PCK the Steering Committee, based on the proposal of the Task Force, decided to launch an updated version of the FEDAS PCK.

The aim of this new version is to:

  • Simplify the allocation of the key,
  • Improve the options for statistics,
  • Achieve a more constant concept throughout the various categories
  • Adapt better to the requirements of the retail and manufacturer as well as

The changes and improvements have been discussed and developed within the Task Force (members of the Task Force are suppliers, retailers and purchase groups) and wherever necessary additional companies have been consulted.

This new version will of course still have the same structure as the previous version, but some existing codes will be deleted or replaced by new codes. This means that we have to convert some of the codes used today to the new version (information concerning converting table can be found on the Internet).

This document describes the main modifications of the FEDAS Product Classification Key (PCK). Further details can be found in the "Implementation table". This excel table shows the actual and the new versions. The new product groups are marked in green as product groups, which are not used any longer, are highlighted in red.

   
2. Management Summary
 

The aim of this chapter is to give an outline of the major modifications. For more detailed description the following main chapters must be consulted. These chapters describe the single modification in details.

The Excel table "Beta version", which you now can download from the FEDAS home page contains the following information:

  • Effektive FEDAS 1.0 in English and German
  • FEDAS Version 2.0 in English and German
  • New Product classification keys (version 2.0) à marked in green
  • deleted Product Classification keys (version 2.0) à marked in red
  • Converting table (is the converting key unequal the new key, then the key has been allocated to a new key / new meaning)
  • Allocation of the new size range (for companies using the size range concept)
 
2.1 General
 

The three activities for bike

  • Touring bike/trekking bike,
  • Racing bikes and
  • Mountain bike

were collected under one activity "Bikes" (code = 60).

The activities

  • Gymnastics,
  • Ballet,
  • Weightlifting,
  • Fitness,
  • Aerobic

have now been combine in one activity "fitness, workout"

New activities have been added

  • Fishing
  • Riding

Other activities have been extended with new Product Main Groups (PMGr).

 
2.2 Textile
 

The structure of the product subgroup is throughout the textile category split in

  • Unisex/Men,
  • Ladies and
  • Children.

This structure will permit evaluation and planning according to men, ladies and/or children, which is important for the product categories textile.

In general the upper part is structure according to sleeve length:

  • Without arm (sleeveless),
  • Short arms and
  • Long arms

as pants are structure according to the length of the legs

  • Without legs,
  • Short legs and
  • Long legs.

For special pants (shorts, Bermuda, etc.) separate product-main-groups are available.

Special product-main-group ranges have been reserved for:

  • Swimwear (PMGr 60-69)
  • Replica (this new concept permits to reference replica in each activity (PMGr 70-79)
  • Team clothing (PMGr 90-98)
  • Rainwear (PMGr 80-89)

Leisure activity for the category textile will be split in

  • Leisure Summer and
  • Leisure Winter
 
2.3 Footwear
 

The structure of the product subgroup is throughout the footwear category split in Unisex/Men, Ladies and Children. This structure will permit evaluation and planning according to men, ladies and/or children, which is important for the product categories footwear.

This category is on product-sub-group level also structure according to low, mid (bootee) and high (boot).

Footwear accessories are now allocated to hardware and not to footwear.

Also accessories for inline skates are also in the new version allocated to hardware.

Wherever required in the activity, the product-main-group "Retro" and /or "Lifestyle" will be activated.

   
2.4 Hardware/Textile
   
  All gloves, with the exception of boxing and ice hockey, will allocated to textile
2.5 Hardware

Product-sub-group zero (0) will always, when used, be reserved for "various" product of the main-group and sub-group 9 will be reserved for accessories.

Various activities have been extended with new product-main-groups.

Neoprene "clothing" for water sport will now be allocated to textile.

Tent and sleeping bags are now all allocated to camping and not as in version 1.0 split on Mountaineering and Camping.

3. Beta-Version
The aim of the Beta version is to give the user an in-advance information before version 2.0 is implemented (1.10.2002). The Beta version shows, which records have been deleted, which have been added and which one have been replace be new keys. Due to the fact that some key had to be replace it will become necessary to convert these old key to the new one. In this way it is granted that the statistic also in the future show exact figures. All the necessary information is available in an Excel table on our home page, which can be downloaded.

Please keep in mind, that the Beta version is an intermiediate solution, which shall give the users an overview of the new version 2.0 and to prepare any converting. You as a user has the possibility to report back to the Task Force any opinion and/or improvements that you have. To take your feedback into consideration for the new version 2.0 the task force will need this feedback by latest 10th of August. This will become content of the task force meeting, which will discuss the latest modification before implementation

Please pay attention to the fact that the Beta version under no circumstances must be implemented. The definitive version will be available for on the FEDAS home page (www.fedas.com) by the 1st of October 2002.

4. Activtiy codes
   
4.1 Bike
 

The three bike activities:

Activity =57 = Touring bike/trekking bike
Activity =58 = Racing bikes and
Activity =59 = Mountain bike

have been collected under one activity code "60 = Bikes".

 
4.2 Activities gymnastics/ ballet and weightlifting/ fitness/ aerobic
 

The activities
Activity =77 = Gymnastics/ ballet
Activity =78 = Weightlifting/ fitness/ aerobic

have now been combine in one activity code "77 = Fitness/ workout"

 
4.3 Activity "leisure" Summer /Winter
 

Leisure activity for the category "Textile" was so far in one activity. The new version will be split in:

  • Activity = 75 "Leisure Summer" and
  • Activity = 14 "Leisure Winter"
4.4 New activities

The following activities have be extended or added to the concept

  • Fishing
  • Riding
  • All the Water sports activities (Surfing, Water skiing, Canoeing, Sailing)
5. Hardware
5.1 General modification in the category "Hardware"
 
5.1.1 Product Sub Group "zero" (0)
 
Product-sub-group zero (0) will always, when used, be reserved for "various" product of the main-group
5.1.2 Product Sub Group "nine" (9)
Product-sub-group "nine" (9) will, whenever used always be reserved for accessories.
5.1.3 Gloves
All gloves with the exception of boxing and ice hockey will be allocated to the category "Textile".
5.1.4 Neoprene
 
Neo-preen "clothing" for water sport has bee moved from the category "Hardware" to "Textile".

The PMGr "Carving Skies" has been structure as follows:

5.3.2 Ski systems and sets
 

For alpine skies a new PMGr has been opened integrating ski systems (Binding integrated in the ski, e.g. Salomon "Pilot") and sets (Ski + Binding of the same brand or different brands).

The PSGr are structured equal to the Carving skies
PSGr 1 = Ski systems + sets Race
PSGr 2 = Ski systems + sets Slalom
PSGr 3 = Ski systems + sets Freeride
PSGr 4 = Ski systems + sets Allround

5.9 Bike
   
 

As mentioned in the introduction, the new version has only one activity code (60 = Bike)

The various types of bikes are allocated to their own PMGr:

  • Mountain bikes
  • Cross bikes / Hybrid
  • Trekking / City bikes
  • Racing bikes
  • Special bikes

as all the accessories are allocated to PMGr independent of the type of bike.

   
5.10 Fishing
   
  The activity fishing have been added with its respective product main groups.
   
6. Textile
 
6.1 General modification
 
6.1.1 Structure of the new Product Sub-Group (PSGr)
 

The structure of the product subgroup is throughout the category "Textile" (exception PMGr 99 "Accessories") split in:

  • Unisex/Men
  • Ladies and
  • Children

This structure will permit evaluation and planning according to men, ladies and/or children, which is important when preparing the new season.

 
6.1.2 Structure of upper part and pants
 

In general the upper parts are structured according to the length of the sleeves:

  • Without arm (sleeveless)
  • Short arms and
  • Long arms

The length of the legs are allocated in the separate product main groups (Shorts, Bermuda, etc.). The exception is Underwear, Swimwear and Overalls, where the length of the legs are allocated in the product sub groups, like:

  • Without legs
  • Short legs and
  • Long legs
   
6.1.3  

Special product-main-group ranges have been reserved for:

  • Swimwear = PMGr 60-69
  • Replica = PMGr 70-79 (this new concept permits to reference replica in each activity)
  • Rainwear = PMGr 80-89
  • Team clothing= PMGr 90-98
This new structure will give a more exact allocation of the PCK, a better tool for planning as well as improved statistics.
 
7 Footwear
 
7.1 Structure of the PSGr according to sex
 

The structure of the product subgroup is throughout the footwear category split in

  • Ladies and
  • Children.

This structure will permit evaluation and planning according to men, ladies and/or children, which is important for the product categories footwear.

This category is on product-sub-group level also structure according to the shape of the product:

7.3 Footwear accessories
 
Footwear accessories have been moved to hardware.
 
7.4 Accessories for Inline Skates
 
Accessories for inline skates are in versions 2.0 allocated to hardware and no longer footwear.
 
7.5 Product Main Group "Retro" and "Lifestyle"
 

Where ever required the new product-main-group

  • "Retro" (a shoe design which was produced years back and getting popular again)
  • "Lifestyle" (a sports look like shoe with no or little functionality)
was activated
